Hardest Minecraft Mobs to Beat (and How To)

Some mobs die to a stone sword. Others end hardcore worlds. Here are the toughest fights in vanilla Minecraft, roughly from hardest to easiest, with practical tips for each. Test yourself afterward with our mobs quiz or the timed hard quiz.

1. The Warden

  • Health: 500 (250 hearts)
  • Found in: Ancient Cities in the Deep Dark, summoned by sculk shriekers

The Warden is blind but tracks vibrations and smell, hits harder than any other mob, and can fire a sonic boom that goes through walls and shields. It was designed to be avoided, not fought. How to win: don’t. Sneak (sneaking doesn’t trigger sculk sensors), throw snowballs or arrows to make distracting vibrations, and place wool to muffle noise. If one appears, leave; it digs back underground after about a minute without sensing anything.

2. The Wither

  • Health: 300 in Java Edition (600 in Bedrock)
  • Summoned with: four soul sand or soul soil and three wither skeleton skulls

The Wither fires exploding skulls that inflict the Wither effect and breaks most blocks. Below half health it gains armor that blocks arrows. How to win: fight it underground or in a sealed obsidian room, wear full enchanted netherite or diamond armor, bring milk to clear Wither, and switch to a Smite sword for the second phase. Its reward, the Nether Star, crafts a beacon.

3. The Ender Dragon

  • Health: 200
  • Found in: The End

End crystals on obsidian pillars keep healing the dragon, so destroy them first (shoot them with arrows, and pillar up for caged ones). How to win: bring a bow, plenty of blocks, slow falling potions and a pumpkin to wear so Endermen ignore your gaze. When the dragon perches on the exit portal, hit it with your sword. In Java, beds explode in the End and deal huge damage, but they’re risky.

4. Elder Guardian

  • Health: 80
  • Found in: Ocean monuments (three per monument)

Elder guardians give you Mining Fatigue III, making it nearly impossible to break blocks, and their laser hurts. How to win: use Respiration and Depth Strider, drink water breathing potions, carry doors or blocks for air pockets, and use milk carefully (the effect comes back while you’re near them). Each drops a wet sponge.

5. Ravager

  • Health: 100
  • Found in: Raids

Ravagers charge through crops and leaves and knock you back hard; illagers sometimes ride them. How to win: block the charge with a shield (a successful block stuns it) and counterattack, or trap it with blocks and fight from above.

6. Breeze

  • Health: 30
  • Found in: Trial chambers

Breezes leap around and shoot wind charges that knock you back, and they deflect most projectiles. How to win: use melee. Corner them in small rooms and hit them as they land. They drop breeze rods, used to craft the mace.

7. Evoker

  • Health: 24
  • Found in: Woodland mansions and raids

Evokers summon flying vexes and rows of biting fangs. How to win: rush the evoker before it casts; vexes vanish over time. Your reward is a Totem of Undying, which saves you from death once.

Honorable mention: Piglin brutes

Found only in bastion remnants, piglin brutes have 50 health, swing golden axes, and are not distracted by gold. Bring good armor and fight them at choke points.
